BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER NETWORKS & SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION


INTRODUCTION


In this computer networks and system administration program students can expect to learn the fundamentals of computer hardware, operating systems and computer programming. They are provided with skills in management systems and server operations, as well as practical applications of local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), will be developed. Students can expect to learn the latest in network security using the most up-to-date computer security. Software’s that they can learn alongside using CISCO systems. Theoretical knowledge and computing skills are acquired in:

RATIONALE


Computer networking and systems administration is on demand in the current industrial trends. With the increasing emphasis on web-based mobile technologies and interactions, transactions and commerce, and as well as the latest developments in wireless technology, network security is now a must-have for many businesses. Therefore, this call for all networks professional to be able to administer their network securely. This program provides students who are interested in computer science and information technology with cutting-edge career that makes them specialized network system administrations with global knowledge in networking trends.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES


The specific objective of the Programme is to:
  1. 1. Teach student so that they can design mobile applications that can meet required standards in the industry.
  2. 2. Produce graduates who can administer computer-based networks such that they are secure.
  3. 3. Design a system based on new and existing components using System Engineering techniques.


LEARNING OUTCOMES


At the end of the programme should be able to;
  1. 1. Understand the low-level hardware/software interaction by Computer Architecture knowledge.
  2. 2. Develop systems and applications Programming.
  3. 3. Analyze the performance and limitations of the designed system by the use of Distributed Computing.


GENERAL REGULATIONS


Bugema University general entrance requirements and regulations pertaining to application, registration, examinations and awards shall apply.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS IN THE PROGRAM


Admission to the Programme is done in accordance with the Bugema University entry requirements for Bachelors’ degrees. A candidate is eligible for admission to the Programme on meeting at least one of the following requirements:
  • Two principal passes at Advanced level obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent and with mathematics, physics as major subjects and a science combination with a good grade (credit) at O’level or its equivalent.
  • Must have passed the Mature Age Entry Examinations for the Bachelor of Business Administration recognized by NCHE in Uganda or its equivalent.
  • Must possess a second class Diploma in relevant areas of business and management from recognized institutions.
  • CISCO Entry: One principal pass and two subsidiaries passes attained at the same seating and all the four stages of CISCO certificates completed at any CISCO academy in Uganda.


TARGET GROUP


The Programme targets the following categories of students:
  • Holders of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
  • Diploma holders in relevant areas of IT/business from recognized institutions.
