Information Technology now lies at the heart of almost every business and every organization across the globe. By studying Information Technology a student gains valuable technical and theoretical knowledge and qualifications, which provide a gateway to further study or a rewarding career in a host of associated disciplines. Hence, there is a growing need for human capital to build a foundational entry into the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology, specifically into the field of Systems support and administration, Application development, computer networks as well as for further study at higher education level. Organizations, especially SMEs, need well-rounded junior information technology support professionals with a good fundamental knowledge of the Information Technology field, coupled with interpersonal and business skills, allowing for specialization in common IT support and development fields including; Hardware and Infrastructure Support for Personal Computers, Hardware and Infrastructure Support for Office Applications, Data Communications and Networking, and Website development and maintenance. The Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) has been designed such that it reflects the workplace-based needs of the Information Technology Industry and as an entry level for individuals interested in progressing to a degree programme in Computer Science and Information Technology.


The DIT course aims at giving a solid coverage of the fundamental aspects of information technology, and is designed for graduates who seek to develop the opportunity to follow an IT career. The course covers the important areas of programming, database, data communications, Systems requirements analysis, Website development and the Internet.


Diploma in Information programme designed to:
  • Provide learners with an entry level for further study in Information Technology and related fields.
  • Provide knowledge and skills for IT support function in the computer industry.
  • Impart adequate skills, which will enable the students to perform systems analysis & design, software development tasks and administrative duties.


The Programme targets the following categories of students:
  • Holders of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent and with mathematics, physics as major subjects and a science combination with a good grade (credit) at O‚Äôlevel or its equivalent.
  • Diploma holders in relevant areas of information technology and computer science from recognized institutions.
  • Persons who shall have passed Mature Age Entrance Examinations.
