1. Advocate for the chartering of Bugema University Graduate School to improve access to postgraduate studies among SDA scholars.
2. Develop an internationally competitive postgraduate curriculum offered to improve access to postgraduate studies among SDA scholars.
3. Strengthen human resource capacity of Postgraduate school to improve access to postgraduate studies among SDA scholars.
4. Advocate for affordable tuition fees to improve access to postgraduate studies among SDA
scholars.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION

Admission Requirements for the Proposed Programme

For admission into the programme, a candidate must satisfy all of the following requirements:

  1. A holder of Master of Education or related field from Bugema University;  Or
  2. A Master’s degree in Education or related field from any other recognized institution of higher learning in the related field;  Or
  3. An equivalent qualification approved by the Senate.

     Academic qualifications

   A Master’s with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and above from a recognized university will be the required academic qualification for entry.

 

Student Obligations

The following are the requirements for students in relation to class attendance;

  1. The doctoral student is required to register for all the courses as prescribed in the programme;
  2. Attend all classes for the registered courses each Semester;
  3. Undertake all Course works and End of Semester exams;
  4. Undertake research and write a thesis report.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE INITIATION OF THE PHD IN DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION

III.1 Needs

i.         A number of people in the development sector have expressed a need for more skills in order to cope with the ever increasing challenge in this area.

              ii.         Education in Uganda has superior quality and is relatively cheaper in terms of fees and cost of living. Many parents and sponsors send their students to Uganda because they cannot afford the high-cost of education in other countries. This has resulted in Uganda attracting many international students.

           III.2   Involvement of local, industry, agencies, and institution

   A lot of interest has been generated within our clientele. Many local bodies,

   both church institutions and government organizations, have expressed

   interest to support and sponsor workers to improve their development skills.

           III.3   The rationale behind the need for the program

     There is a need to develop man power for both Bugema University and other institutions which will be interested.

 

     STUDENT INTEREST IN THE PROPOSED PROGRAM

       V.1     Interest of student’s vis-à-vis enrolment

         Indication about student interest in this program has been evidenced by

         applicants, calls, and e-mails from various countries showing their desire to

         enroll for the program.

         So far approximately 25 students from various countries such as Uganda,

         Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, Congo, and Kenya, have expressed their desire

         to enroll for the program as soon as permission is granted.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Admission Requirements for the Proposed Programme

For admission into the programme, a candidate must satisfy all of the following requirements:

  1. A holder of Master of Environmental Management
  2. A Masters degree from any other recognized institution of higher learning in the related field;  Or
  3. An equivalent qualification approved by the Senate.

V.3   Academic qualifications

A master’s degree in a Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health, Natural or Physical Science with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and above from a recognized university will be the required academic qualification for entry.
