The Global Institute of Research and Community Advancement (GIRCA) successfully concluded its 1st Online Students’ Research Conference on 21 April 2026 under the theme From Research to Mission: Solutions that Make a Difference.
The three-day event brought together students and faculty mentors from Adventist universities across Africa for research presentations, active listening and scholarly discussions. Over 600 delegates participated, with approximately 120 students presenting papers. Five Bugema University students were recognized as best presenters based on peer ratings, each receiving an award of USD 100.

The conference was preceded by a practical coaching session organized by the Bugema University Research Directorate, led by Dr. Baraka Manjale Ngussa and Dr. Joel Kannyana together with Dr. Jesca Nabulya, Pr. Isingoma Edward, Dr. Martin Lubowa, Dr. Clare Kyomuhendo and Mr. Amos Asiimwe as research mentors. The intensive training equipped students with essential skills in academic writing and presentation. Anzoa Mercy Aloysius, one of Bugema students who attended and presented commented, “Participating was truly a transformative experience that elevated my research perspective and scholarly engagement. The conference fostered rigorous intellectual exchange, refined my analytical and presentation skills, and reinforced my commitment to advancing evidence-based, impactful solutions to the pressing global and community health challenges.” We thank God for the commitment demonstrated by students, mentors and the university administration in making this event a success.
Looking ahead, GIRCA is preparing for the 2nd Annual Student Research Conference in 2027, alongside a one-day symposium scheduled for later in 2026 to further strengthen research capacity. The Bugema University Research Directorate invites students and faculty mentors to join the BU Research club, a collaborative platform aimed at addressing critical contemporary issues through research and publication.

Thanks BU Directorate of research and GIRCA for the conference. It enhanced by research knowledge because I personally and actively participated in the conference. The collaboration established should be strengthened both by faculty members and students to become professionals in research field and build goodwill of the university for both personal and institution growth. Thanks for the initiative otherwise I have noted positive and tremendous development in BU research department the few weeks Prof. Baraka is in charge BU research. Accordingly he has encouraged me to appreciate research and actively now engage in academic research for BU research conference in August. God bless Prof Baraka and entire BU research team
My Doctors and Professors thanks for the work done. You have really walked the talk as our University motto which states; Excellence in Service. Continue for that braveness of mentoring us as God is there to reward you🙏. Stay blessed and loved. Bugema University, my University my Future ( Graduate School).
A landmark achievement by our esteemed students of Bugema University once again. Congratulations and well done!!
If we are to contribute to national development and transformation of our society, then reseach needs to be done ” down-top”. Get to our society and look for where it is ailing. Let that inform your research problem/question so that at the end the solution you bring is for the table to be implemented and not the shelf.
African shelves are too full, yet the continent is teeming with societal ills.
God bless you keep moving forward.
Bugema University is truly a place where faith and excellence meet. As we are reminded by Pastor Gumikiriza James, ‘true education must transform both the mind and the heart.’ This is exactly what the School of Theology continues to achieve.
Dr. Emwaku rightly emphasizes that ‘knowledge becomes meaningful when it is applied in service,’ and Bugema consistently prepares us for that mission. Likewise, Dr. Mwita and Pr Isingoma highlights the importance of visionary leadership, while Dr. Achiga reminds us that ‘discipline and character are the foundation of lasting impact.’
Bugema is not just shaping student it is shaping leaders for both the church and the world.
