Bugema University, October 13, 2026
Bugema University launched the TUSEME Club on Tuesday, October 13, a student empowerment initiative sponsored by FAWE Uganda (Forum for African Women Educationalists) to give students a platform to speak out on issues affecting their education and well-being.

The launch brought together students and university leaders, with the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Isreal M. Kafeero, using the occasion to challenge students to “mind their business” by taking responsibility for their education, character, and future.
TUSEME, a Kiswahili word meaning “let us speak out” or “speak out,” is expected to help students build confidence, leadership, and communication skills while creating a space where young men and women can work together to address challenges they face on campus.
In his address, the vice chancellor told students that lecturers can teach them and the university can provide opportunities, but no one can learn on their behalf. He urged them to make good use of the library, ask questions whenever they do not understand, and avoid idleness.
He also called on students to uphold honesty and respect, use social media responsibly, and refuse to take part in examination malpractice, bullying, and the spreading of rumors. He encouraged them to speak up with courage and respect and to report discrimination and harassment through the university’s official channels.
The vice chancellor further warned students against ignoring fellow students in need. “Do not say it is none of my business. It is your business,” he said, urging them to show compassion and support one another.
He also encouraged students to use the university’s innovation center to develop and register their ideas and challenged those in fields such as information technology and food science to create solutions the community needs.
With the TUSEME Club now launched, students at Bugema University have a new platform to raise their voices, grow as leaders, and put the vice chancellors’ call to mind their business into action.
