It is with great passion that I welcome you to the Department of Science Education within Bugema University’s School of Education. In a world demanding innovative educators who bridge science and pedagogy, our department excels in preparing teachers, curriculum developers, and STEM leaders through programs like the Bachelor of Science with Education and Diploma in Science Education. Rooted in Seventh-day Adventist values and our holistic 3H philosophy (Head, Heart, Hand), we inspire excellence attuned tothe global educational and environmental imperatives.
Our approach integrates rigorous scientific training spanning Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture, Mathematica, Computer Studies and integrated sciences with transformative teaching methodologies, experiential learning, and ethical stewardship. In our modern laboratories and collaborative spaces, students explore hands-on experiments, curriculum design, and community outreach, equipping them to ignite curiosity and foster sustainable solutions in classrooms across Uganda and beyond.

Do not forget that the world has embeced the new mode of learning branded Competency Based Learning or Problem Based Learning. Department of Science Education has jumped on this bandwagon. Learners will walk out of the portals of Bugema Univwristy with heads held high with scientific pedagogical knowledge armed to the teeth for service in excellence. Science is the solution to the world’s problems. We are the shakers and movers of the world. That is why it is not a mistake to join us.
Above all, our education is Christian based. We believe and teach that God is the master Scientist. He created and sustains us as science specimens. Students will become all round graduates. We follow the Adventist philosophy of education where we inculcate faith in the classroom.

Duration of the Programme
The Bachelor of Science with Education at Bugema University is a 3-year (6-semester) full-time program, with part-time options that are as accomodative as possible. They are designed to equip future science teachers with expertise in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture, Computer Studies and Mathematics amont other teaching subjects and integrated sciences, alongside advanced pedagogical skills. The Diploma in Science Education, a 2-year (4-semester) foundational course extendable to longer periods of time according to a student’s time and means. We prepare students for immediate classroom impact or seamless progression to degree studies. Both programs, offered with August and January intakes, emphasize hands-on lab work, teaching practice, and ethical leadership rooted in Seventh-day Adventist values, ensuring graduates are ready to inspire and innovate in Africa’s educational landscape and beyond.
