New University Council begins its term with a call for principled leadership, sound governance and service
6 September 2026 marked an important moment in the governance of Bugema University as the newly constituted University Council held its inaugural meeting and welcomed its members into a new term of service.
The first sitting began with the swearing-in of the new Council members, a significant moment that formally marked the beginning of their responsibilities to the University. The oath-taking session was presided over by Counsel George.
The meeting was also graced by the presence of the University’s Chancellor, Bishop Pastor Kajoba Samuel, who delivered the opening remarks and warmly welcomed the new Council members.
In his remarks, the Chancellor encouraged the Council to uphold the principles and values of the Church as they provide guidance on the University’s plans, decisions and implementation. He emphasised the importance of serving with commitment and ensuring that the University’s direction remains consistent with its mission and values.
The Chancellor also highlighted the distinction between the roles of the University Council and the Administration Board. He explained that the Council has a governance role as stakeholders of the University, while the Administration is responsible for implementing decisions and managing the University’s day-to-day affairs.
The Council further received a presentation on Corporate Governance from Senior Counsel Hodge Semakula, providing members with an important foundation as they begin their responsibilities and engage with matters of institutional governance.
The opening devotion was led by Emeritus Pastor Aliddeki Christian, adding a spiritual dimension to the proceedings and setting the tone for the Council’s work.
The inaugural meeting therefore served not only as the first sitting of the new Council, but also as an opportunity to establish a shared understanding of governance, responsibility, service and the values that guide Bugema University.
As the new Council begins its term, Bugema University looks forward to the contribution of its members in advancing the University’s mission and supporting its continued growth.
Welcome to the new Bugema University Council. We wish you wisdom, commitment and God’s guidance as you serve.
