Bugema University, 21 August 2026 Bugema University has punched its ticket to the finals of the Inter-University Debate Championship, following a strong showing at the semi-final stage held on Friday, 21 August 2026, at Mzuri Africa Hotel, Namataba, Mukono. The championship, running under the theme “From Ideas to Impact: Uniting Africa Through Debate, Innovation and Green Technology,” formed part of a broader initiative to bring together leading higher education institutions in a platform combining debate, innovation, and green technology.
The semi-final stage brought together some of the country’s leading institutions, among them Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, Seeta University, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, St. Francis Schools of Health Sciences, and Bugema University.
The competing teams squared off on two sharply contested motions. The first required debaters to interrogate whether digital and green technologies stand as the most effective solutions to post-harvest losses and agricultural waste across Africa. The second turned to matters of continental unity, with teams debating whether a single African presidency, currency, and continental security institution would meaningfully extend the spirit of Africa’s independence.
Bugema University’s team held its own on the floor, impressing adjudicators enough to secure a place in the finals, where they will now face off against Seeta University.
The championship offered participating institutions far more than a debating platform. Alongside the competition, the event featured a Green Innovation Exhibition showcasing solutions for agriculture, technology, and the environment, as well as career and leadership learning sessions and opportunities for students to network with industry experts, organisations, and potential employers. For Bugema University’s debaters, the semi-final round served as much as a platform for sharpening public speaking and critical thinking skills as it did a competitive milestone.
With the finals now on the horizon, Bugema University carries the momentum of a strong semi-final performance into a highly anticipated clash with Seeta University, an outcome that reflects not only on the debate team itself but on the University’s growing presence in inter-institutional competitions built around ideas, innovation, and impact.
