Bugema University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Adventist University of Mozambique (AUM), setting up a framework for cooperation in academics, research, professional development, and institutional growth between the two institutions.
The MoU was signed on 4th September 2026 by Prof. Israel Masiko Kafeero, Vice Chancellor of Bugema University, and Prof. Dr. Esther Masarira Landane, Rector of the Adventist University of Mozambique. They were joined by Pr. William Bagambe, Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration at Bugema University, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration at AUM.
Bugema University is a chartered Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning in Uganda, while AUM is a Seventh-day Adventist institution based in Beira, Sofala Province, Mozambique. Both institutions describe the partnership as an expression of their shared commitment to academic excellence, Christian values, research and community transformation.
The agreement covers ten broad areas of cooperation. It provides for student mobility and exchange, including short academic visits, study tours and virtual exchange programmes, as well as faculty and staff exchange for guest lectures, mentoring and professional development.
It also opens the door to joint research and innovation between the two universities, with a focus on challenges relevant to Uganda, Mozambique, Africa and the wider global community. The Parties have further agreed to work together on joint grant development, publications and knowledge sharing, and postgraduate education, alongside curriculum development, quality assurance and digital learning.
Beyond academics, the MoU covers entrepreneurship, community engagement and service, and, reflecting the shared Adventist identity of the two institutions, Christian education, spiritual development and leadership.
Each institution will designate a coordinator to guide the implementation of the agreement, and specific activities will be rolled out through separate written arrangements as they are agreed upon. The MoU takes effect from the date of signing and will run for five years, renewable by mutual consent.
The signing underscores Bugema University’s ongoing efforts to build international academic partnerships that open opportunities for its students and faculty. For both institutions, the agreement is a starting point for shared research, exchange and collaboration that reaches beyond their own campuses and communities.
